7. Scroll down to the bottom of the page, which will contain a form for

you toﬁll out. You need to ﬁll inthe blankswith contact information

for your secure web server’s administrator.

8. After you have ﬁlled in the correct information for your secure web

server’sadministratororwebmaster,youshould readtheserveragree-

ment providedat the bottom ofthe page. Then click on Acceptatthe

bottom ofthe pageto indicate that you acceptthe termsof theagree-

ment and that you would like to be issued a test certiﬁcate.

VeriSign shouldindicatethat your application wasreceivedandpro-

cessed and email you a test certiﬁcate. If you receive an error mes-

sageinstead, follow whateverinstructions itprovides,but ﬁrst check

your email. Even if you received an error message indicating that

there was some problem with your application and that you’ll need

to email your application to them, the test certiﬁcate may have al-

ready been emailed to you.

9. Savethe test certiﬁcate,including the BEGIN CERTIFICATEline and

the END CERTIFICATE line, in a ﬁle named httpsd.crt in your

/etc/httpd/conf directory.

3.5.3 Obtaining a Test Certiﬁcate from Thawte

To request a test certiﬁcate from Thawte, point your web browser to

https://www.thawte.com/cgi/server/test.exe (ﬁgure

3.4 on page 66)and follow the instructions provided next.

1. Cut and paste your certiﬁcate request (the contents of your

httpsd.csr ﬁle) into the “Certiﬁcate Signing Request” text box on

Thawte’s web page.

2. SelectUse the most basicformat in the “Certiﬁcate Format Options”

section of the page.

3. Click the Generate Test Certiﬁcate button at the bottom of the page.
