3.3.2 Proving Your Organization’s Identity to Thawte

Thawte requires some form of all three of the following to prove your or-

ganization’s identity:

1. Proof of the Right to a Name

2. Proof of the Right to a Domain

3. Letter of Authorization for Certiﬁcate

Proof of the right to a name consists of some type of documentation that

proves you are a recognized business or non-proﬁt known by a particular

name. The type of documentation you’ll need to provide depends upon

what kind of organization your company is (for example, a corporation, a

government department, a university, etc.).

If your organization is a company, corporation, partnership or proprietor-

ship, you’ll need to provide Thawte with either a copy of your company

registrationdocumentsoracopyofyourarticlesofincorporation/partnership

declaration.

If your organization is a DBA (Doing Business As), you’ll need to provide

Thawte with a copy of your DBA registration papers for local levies and

taxes.

If your organization is a government department, you’ll need to provide

Thawte with an original signed letter from the head of your department,

providing contact information for him or her andfor his or her immediate

superiors.

If your organization is an NGO (Non-Government Organization), you’ll

needto provideThawte with anoriginal signed letter from the ChiefExec-

utive, Chairmanor Managing Director of your organization on letterhead.

If your organization is a university or university department, you’ll need

to provide Thawte with an original signed letter on letterhead from the

Dean or head of the department, including contact information for him or

her.

If your organization is some kind of special interest group or just doesn’t

ﬁt into any of the above categories, you’ll need to check Thawte’s website
